Latin America Day at YGU

On December 13th, 2022, YGU invited group of SEED program participant students. SEED is an international exchange program founded by a corporation “Goromu” to let students of Latin America have chance to visit/study in Japan for short period.  16 students came from universities in Latin America (ESPM University in Brazil, Austral University in Argentina, EAFIT University, and Los Andes University in Colombia), and 6 students from campus in Japan (Sophia University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies,  Meiji University and Eikei University).

In order to enliven the visit, YGU IEC held Latin America Day activities that were divided into three parts. The first part was is about proposed solutions to local economic problems in Yamanashi. The second part was is about introducing the culture of each country to students and welcome performance by YGU Performance Team and Karate Team in the Memorial Hall. And the third part was  a welcome party held at Student Lounge “Y”.

In the first part, students participated in Proff. Rosario Laratta’s class to give presentations on their market analysis result on Yamanashi’s food culture, wine, and tourism. In this class, they discussed their theme and received many pieces of advice before presenting it on the public pitch to be held in front of industries executives of Yamanashi the other day.

The second part was held at the Memorial Hall of YGU. All of the students tried their best to introduce their country and culture. For example, capoeira by Brazilian students, salsa dance by Colombian students, and presentation on nature and culture of Argentina.  Beautiful welcome performance of Karate “Kata” by YGU Karate team and dance/cheer-leading by YGU Performance Team provided memorable impression to Latin Amarican students.

The third part was a welcome party, an opportunity for students to talk and nurture their connections. The students seem to be enjoying the party and become closer to each other.

It is hoped that this kind of activity will help broaden the horizons in mind and broaden the network of students.
