2.Reduction of Tuition Fees
This system is implemented in accordance with the regulations relating to tuition fee
reduction for self-financing foreign International students at Yamanashi Gakuin University
and Junior College. The objective is to reduce the financial burden on International
students. The system is effected by reducing the amount of tuition fees charged at the
when tuition fees are due, in April.
Amount of assistance
The amount of assistance is generally equivalent to 40% of tuition fees.
Self-financing Foreign International students who can benefit from the assistance.
(as defined by the Japan International Education Council)
Those who can benefit from this assistance are self-financing foreign International
students who are in Japan on a student visa and who are enrolled on a formal course at a
private university or junior college.
However, people in any of the following categories are excluded:
(1) People judged not to wish to continue their studies, taking into account their
attendance record.
(2) People whose academic performance has not been good and who are judged not to
have expectation of adequate performance.
(3) People who are judged to be financially in need of assistance.
(4) People who have repeated a year of study. (except where because of illness or
other unavoidable circumstance).
(5) People on leave from the university or college.
Yamanashi Gakuin University implements the tuition fee reduction scheme in relation to
self-financing foreign International students with student visas, and self-financing
foreign International students who have entered the university through its International
student examinations.
Note
Please note that students who fail to apply to the Japanese Government for fee reduction,
or who do not attend the university or who withdraw from the university will be asked to
refund the amount by which their fees have been reduced.
Medical Expenses Support System
You should first join the National Health Insurance Program. This enables you to
receive medical treatment with 30% contribution from yourself. The procedures for
enrollment are carried out at local council offices handling foreigners' registration.
Members of the program pay insurance premiums.
Under the Medical Expenses Support System The Japan International Education Council
reimburses 80% of medical fees paid in respect of treatment covered by the National
Insurance System. Please read the following carefully and apply for it. However, please
note that people who have not joined either the National Insurance System or a social
insurance scheme, and people who are not in Japan on a student visa, cannot benefit from
the Medical Expenses Support System.
How much is saved through the International student Medical Expenses Support System?
For example, if an International student has treatment that costs 10,000 yen under the
National Health Insurance System, 7,000 yen will be borne by the insurance and the student
will pay 3,000 yen to the hospital/clinic. If the student then applies for medical
expenses support through the university, he/she will be paid 2,400 yen. Thus the final
amount borne by the student will be 600 yen.
Participation in the National Insurance System allows you to benefit from this very
advantageous system. Even if you think the monthly premiums are expensive, or if you think
that you will not get ill or have an accident, please join the program. Nobody can tell
what type of illness or injury they may suffer at some time. |
